Building Your Home

DesignCenter_Small.jpgAs a trusted homebuilder for more than 50 years, we have developed and refined the industry's first multi-step Customer Care Process to ensure that owners like you are involved at every critical stage of construction. We call it our 7-Step Process. It's a chance for you to see the quality materials and disciplined approach to construction that forms the foundation of your new home. It's also a chance for you to enjoy the rare and thrilling experience of watching what was once just an idea, a notion, a dream, take shape and become your new home. Specifically, the process involves these steps:

  • Sales Agreement
After a homesite and plan are selected, you and the New Home Sales Representative sign a sales agreement and an initial deposit is collected.  This sales agreement outlines the responsibilities of both you and the builder throughout the construction process and guarantees you the current market sales price throughout the duration of construction.

  • Loan Commitment
After signing the contract documents you will meet with your Lending Professional to discuss and finalize the terms of your long-term loan. You Mortgage Lender will then provide B. Alan Homes with a “Loan Commitment Letter” that verifies your eligibility to receive financing and their commitment to provide financing upon the completion of your home.

  • Color Selection Meeting
A meeting is held at our Design Center with the Design Specialist to select interior and exterior home finishes and review a full-scale set of your home plans.

  • Pre-Construction Meeting
You will have the opportunity to meet your Production Coordinator to review any questions you have about the building of your new home, review some additional contract documents and approve your final set of homeplans. The remaining construction deposit is due at this time.  Your home's “dig date” is established so you know when to expect a starting date and rough completion date.

  • Permits and Engineering
After you approve the final set of plans for your new home, the plans are appropriately engineered to meet your personalized criteria and are then sent to the city to be reviewed and approved for a building permit.

  • Foundation
Pouring the footings and foundation, underground plumbing, and backfill work is performed during this stage.

  • Framing
The “skeleton” of your home is erected and you will have the opportunity to begin realizing the spaces and layout of your home. Floors, walls, stairs, and roof are constructed during this stage. Windows and exterior doors are installed after framing is completed.

  • Exterior Finishes & Mechanicals
Exterior stucco, rock, brick or Hardiplank is installed.  The roofing materials are supplied and installed. Meanwhile, the interior mechanical suppliers begin installing plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.

  • 4-Way Inspection
Prior to drywall installation, a B. Alan Homes construction professional meets with your and your New Home Sales Representative to provide a guided tour of your home, allowing you to inspect the inner workings, view its quality components, verify optional features you have selected, and ask questions you may have.

  • Insulation and Drywall
After the 4-Way Inspection, insulation and drywall are installed in the home to keep you and your family dry and comfortable.  After the drywall is hung, the walls are “mudded and taped” to seal the seams in the drywall and prepare the surface for interior paint.

  • Interior Finishes
Finish carpenters install baseboards and casing, interior doors are hung, interior painting is completed, cabinets, countertops, sinks, toilets, hardware, lighting and plumbing fixtures, and mirrors are installed.  Flooring and appliances are the final components in the home.

  • Quality Assurance Inspection
Before your final walk-through, B. Alan Homes conducts its own 100-point quality control check to ensure everything is in proper working order and up to quality standards. Any needed repairs or touch-ups are made and the home is thoroughly cleaned in preparation for your Homeowner Orientation.

  • Homeowner Orientation
When your home is finished, B. Alan Homes' Customer Service Manager will take you on a room-by-room tour to demonstrate the quality features and operating procedures for all aspects of your home, as well as explain our service procedures.
